Thanksgiving Day (1) is the last Thursday in November. The day is a national holiday in the United States.

According to history, the first people to celebrate Thanksgiving were the Pilgrims (2) who founded (3) Plymouth (4), Massachusetts (5), in 1620. The Pilgrims gave thanks to God that they had arrived safely and that there were lots of good things for them to eat.

For this reason, Thanksgiving Day has come to mean not only a day on which the people give thanks to God because they are well and happy, but also a day on which a magnificent dinner is prepared. It is customary for this dinner to include turkey (6), cranberry sauce (7), and pumpkin pie(8).
