1.         Iraq's deputy oil secretary(石油部次長) warned Friday that Iraq would take up arms to protect its oil wealth, and predicted that if a U.S.-led invasion begins, the price of oil could reach US$70 a barrel.

2.         North Korea said Friday the nuclear crisis could be easily solved in direct talks with the United States, but U.S. President George W. Bush insisted only a multi-national effort could defuse the stand-off(僵局).

3.         North Korea test-fired a missile into the sea Monday in what was seen as an attempt to raise tension further in the standoff over its nuclear programs and pressure the United States into negotiations.

4.         France waged a diplomatic battle against the United States and Britain on Monday to woo wavering nations(立場搖擺) into the anti-war camp for a U.N. vote unlikely to alter U.S. plans to invade Iraq.

5.         A majority of Britons would support a war to disarm Iraq if it had the backing of the United Nations, according to an opinion poll published on Sunday.

6.         The protesters carried banners that read, No war, no blood, no killings, and Stop killing people.

7.         Japan has sent a high-tech surveillance battleship to the Sea of Japan, the Defense Agency said Thursday, amid Japanese reports North Korea could be preparing an intermediate-range ballistic missile test.

8.         A man who said he had a bomb burst into the Reuters news bureau in Beijing on Wednesday and held a number of journalists hostage for about two hours before releasing them unharmed. He was later arrested.

9.         The Philippines said on Wednesday it uncovered(破獲) a plan by Muslim rebels to stage reprisal attacks if the United States invades Iraq and suggested a radical Southeast Asian group may be linked to a deadly blast last week. 

10.      The United States is seeking support for a resolution that contains a March 17 ultimatum threatening war against Iraq. However, the White House had indicated it is considering the possibility of dropping the resolution, which faces the threat of French and Russian vetoes.
