1.         He (President George W. Bush)is determined to go to war, but we are here to bring the voices of women and children to demand peace, and to demand a non-violent solution.

2.         Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter criticized the U.S. march toward war, saying in an opinion piece in the New York Times that an attack on Iraq would fall short of the ethical standard for just war.

3.         Singapore and Taiwan warned residents on Friday to avoid unnecessary trips to Hong Kong after finding more cases of a mysterious, highly contagious flu(influenza) that killed one man and infected more than 90 people.

4.         Israeli experts and officials said (that)the probability of an Iraqi strike at Israel in response to a U.S.-led assault was very low, and  (that)preparations for a chemical or biological attack were just precautions.

5.         Chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix expressed disappointment that the United States, Britain and Spain had decided so quickly that inspections weren't working. In the face of strong council (Security Council) opposition, the three countries on Monday abandoned efforts to seek Security Council backing for war.

6.         Iraq said most of the helicopters used by U.N. weapons inspectors were flown out to Syria on Sunday reroute to Cyprus after a Western insurance company suspended its cover for the aircraft.

7.         A majority of Britons(英國人) do not want heir to the throne(王儲) Prince Charles to become king when Queen Elizabeth dies or if she abdicates(退位).

8.         Foreign Minister Eugene Chien(簡又新) came under fire(受到抨擊) yesterday over a Foreign Ministry spokesman's call for Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein to go on a war-averting exile(避戰而自我放逐) as demanded by the United States.

9.         President George W. Bush announced the action in a nationally televised address and affirmed his resolve(宣誓決心) to "disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger."

10.      The Iraqi envoy to the United Nations, Mohammad Al-Douri, said he plans to submit a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan calling the start of U.S. military action against Iraq "a violation of international law(違反國際法)."
