4.         A Taipei man who refused to have his temperature checked at the airport and later shied away from health officials was fined NT$60,000 for violating the newly-installed quarantine rule amid the spread of a deadly respiratory illness in parts of Asia.

5.         The United States, mainland China and North Korea will hold talks next week on the North's suspected nuclear weapons ambitions, U.S. and South Korean officials said on Wednesday, raising hopes of a way out of the six-month-old crisis.

6.         With airlines canceling flights, tourists staying at home and shops and restaurants empty in SARS hotspots like Hong Kong and Singapore, Asian governments are facing their greatest challenge since the 1997-98 regional economic crisis.

7.         With no single weapon of mass destruction yet uncovered in Iraq, U.S. and British leaders are now pointing fingers at (指責)neighboring Syria(敘利亞), suggesting that was where the banned arms could be found.

8.         Syria said on Wednesday it was willing to cooperate with the United States in the interest of Iraqi but would not close the offices of radical Palestinian groups, one of Washingtons long-standing demands(長期的要求).

9.         Thailands Energy Ministry is considering awarding gold necklaces to citizens who are found to be diligent energy-savers.  Two winners to be chosen weekly would each be awarded a gold necklace weighing 7.5 grams.

10.      Malaysia is lifting restrictions imposed last week on travelers from China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Canada in efforts to contain the deadly SARS virus, a newspaper said Thursday. But an immigration official said there was no change yet in the policy.
