5.          Cambodia, regarded during the 1990s as one of southeast Asia's main sources of illegal weapons, passed a law on Tuesday to limit the use and export of stockpiled guns and ammunition(貯存的槍彈).

6.          UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has said it is too early to definitively say whether Syria has withdrawn all its troops from Lebanon.  In a report to the Security Council, he said he had received a letter from Syria saying full withdrawal was complete.

7.          Several Spanish mayors have said they will refuse to marry same sex couples despite a bill passed by deputies which would allow gay couples to wed.  One of the mayors, Javier Leon de la Riva, said that while he supported equal rights for gay couples, their unions(結合) cannot be called a marriage.

8.          The Vatican(梵蒂岡), under the new leadership of Pope Benedict XVI, has condemned a Spanish government bill allowing marriage between homosexuals.  The bill, passed by parliament's Socialist-dominated lower house, also allows gay couples to adopt(收養小孩).

9.          Rescue operations in the rail crash that killed at least 90 people in Japan have entered a third day with hopes fading of finding more survivors.  About 450 people were also injured when a train derailed and rammed into an apartment block near Osaka on Monday.

10.      European aircraft maker Airbus's A380, the world's largest passenger plane, has taken off on its long-awaited maiden flight(處女航;首次試飛).  Thousands of aeroplane enthusiasts have turned up in southern France to witness the twin-deck "super-jumbo"(超級巨無霸) taking to the air for the first time.

11.      The government, initially strongly critical, is now cautiously backing(支持) Mr. Lien Chan’s trip.  President Chen Shui-bian has said visits to China by opposition leaders would have his blessing if they acted according to the law and did not sign agreements with Beijing without government authorization.

12.      Thirty-five people died in the crash and 43 were injured, 30 of them seriously, said police spokesman Rienzie Perera. All the victims were aboard the bus, which was dragged by the train for about 100 meters after the collision.

13.      In Nanjing, the capital of China when Liens Nationalist Party(名詞片語,作Nanjing的同位語) or Kuomintang (KMT) was in power, hundreds of Chinese waved banners welcoming him as he toured the mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen(中山陵), father of the revolution that toppled Chinas last emperor in 1911.

15.      Miss France 2004(2004法國小姐) has been stripped of her title(停權) for six months after posing for Playboy(「花花公子」雜誌拍照).  The head of the committee that runs the contest said she was "dismayed and appalled(失望與訝異)" by the half-naked photos(半裸) of Laetitia Bleger in the magazine.
