Bob: Yeah. It looks like a good school. I’m definitely going to apply.

Jane: I’ve decided to apply for early admission to Berkeley.
Bob: So Berkeley is your first choice. If they accept you, you’ve got to go
Bob: Good news! I just got an acceptance letter from Cornell.
Jane: Congratulations! That’s one of the most competitive schools in the
Bob: Jane, have you gotten a response from Rice yet?
Jane: I called the Office of Admissions, and they said I was on the waiting
Bob: Wow, Jane—you got into Harvard!
Jane: I’m as surprised as you are! I guess my extracurricular activities really
helped my application.
Bob: I’ve already heard from all the local schools,
since they have rolling admissions policies.
Jane: Yeah, but you’ve still got to wait for the decisions of all the schools
with application deadlines.
Jane: I just heard that Georgetown had six applicants
for every available place in the freshman class.
Bob: Oh, well—I guess that’s another $45 application fee down the drain. I
wish I’d known that Georgetown was so selective.
