以下十五句錄自1981年Longman出版的英國小說簡愛(Jane Eyre)節縮本的第五刷。本人另有1964年(基本字彙不詳), 1976年(基本字彙1500) 1987年(基本字彙1800),
1994年(基本字彙2000)，1996年(基本字彙2000)各版。原書出版於1847年，作者為Charlotte Bronte. 網友如曾試譯回英文，可與下列原文對照，作對比分析。在翻譯時，要了解它的原意，勿拘泥於原文。例如：第一句曇花一現，原意是很短的時間，不要拘泥於曇花一現，否則曇花就難倒我們了；第三句移情別戀，不要拘泥於移情別戀四字，而用另一種方式表達。又例如：一夕(頃刻)之間，風雲變色，如拘泥於風雲變色，雲尚可變色，風則無法變色，所以，要把風雲變色心想為白話：「一切都改變了」，而英譯為：Everything changed overnight (suddenly). 如此，翻譯則不如想像中那麼困難。 1.
